keeping memories forever

happy mummy stitching

I know that a lot of people in blogland have done little stitchettes of their children’s drawings. I am one of them. I had seen them at a lot of different blogs and decided to have a go. The one above is one that The Little Bush Princess drew. It is a picture of me. She said you could tell it was me because I was smiling! Please note…I don’t always smile!

pole-ey bear

And this is a Pole-e-bear. ‘He has eyes for looking. A nose for sniffing. Ears for listening and a tail for wagging when he is happy…’ Obviously!

daddy long legs with ears

And this little guy is a daddy long legs spider. He is a rather happy chap. I think my favourite part of this one is not the eleven legs or even the smile….for me it is the ears!

(My apologies for the quality of the pictures. My camera kept picking up the grain of the fabric and the light is not that fabulous today!)

I love these little drawings so much and I don’t want to see them lost in a pile of papers for all eternity.

By stitching them they take on a new importance to me. As I stitch them I think about the little stories I was told when they were proudly presented to me. I can close my eyes and see those happy, proud faces shining up at me! Those precious memories become cemented in my memory forever. I will always know that the pole-e-bears tail is for wagging when he is happy! And I will tell anyone who asks….I will tell them even if they don’t ask!…see I am telling you…and you didn’t ask….

I am collecting a little stash of these embroideries. I plan to use them in a quilt for our bed. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to sleep beneath all that loveliness?

Don’t forget to scroll down to the next post to see the GIVEAWAY. Leave me a comment. I will draw the winner after comments close on Saturday.

Good luck!

Jen, of course spiders have ears - how else do they hear? Such a great way of preserving their works of art!

I really love this idea. I am sure that when my little one is older and drawing for me I will be doing the same thing. I love the idea of forever preserving art in such a usable way. Thanks for the email. It gave me all kinds of warm fuzzies.

  5. This is so sweet! I wish I had done this when my children were little. I LOVE little one’s art (one reason I became an art teacher!) I love the idea of sleeping underneath all these expressions of your own children. Wow. You are so awesome!

  6. This is such a great idea. I have a drawing hanging up right now that would actually be perfect for this, and I never would have thought of it. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Clever girl!
Those are so precious, just another reminder they only stay little for a short while, enjoy every nano second!
I remember some family members doing this too when I was a child….a very long time ago! Thanks for the wonderful reminder, I will keep this idea in mind when the grandchildren start drawing their little masterpieces!

What a lovely idea. And to think you will be sleeping under these precious memories is just so beautiful. I wish I had thought of this when my bairn were young. Or perhaps I could dig out a few of their saved drawings…. I only have a million and one to choose from!! It is the onlt real thing I hoard!!
