creating needs kids
It seems like the last thing I can do without my little muse being at home is create.
Nothing seems to be getting done around here at the moment.
Sunday proved to be a day of difference though. With Scott out at the property I had the house to myself…well myself and the kids! Turns out that was what I needed to get cooking with thread. I needed my kids around me. The noise, the bustle and the company of their little voices.
I have an opportunity to do a bit of a collaboration with one of my friends. She’s an artist and we’re considering melting what we do together in a big ‘ol pot and seeing what we can come up with. So we need somewhere to start. We need to think of a wearable canvas or two to put her work onto. This little top was what I came up with on Sunday.
Obviously it doesn’t have her artwork yet…but there are a few blank and interesting spaces on this little top that should give us something to play with.
It’s been soooo long since I’ve drafted a clothing pattern and this is the ’sketch in cotton’ first draft of a very rough pattern but it came together largely how I hoped it was going to which is always a nice little bonus! Sure it still needs some tweaking but not too bad. All made out of scraps from the library bag and stash fillers. Oh and my old jeans!
The best bit was no sooner had I finished giving it a little press when The Little Bush Princess appeared at the ironing board with a huge grin on her face…’Can I wear it now Mum?’…How could I say no?
A few minutes later and she was fully accessorised (glam hat and brother’s old thongs!) and off for some photos.
Oh how I need my children to feed my soul!

Such stunning photos. I love the fifth one peeping out of the hat….so adorable. I hope the transition of school sorts its self out quickly for you! The top reminds me of Holly Hobbie. Love it

parenting is the most wonderful and most painful (literally!) thing. tommy is in his last year at school and hopefully will go to art school next year so won’t leave home. no no no he cannot do that - not yet anyway! xxx
