dreaming of a farm

Posted by Jenny on Jul 31 2009 | Day to dayness

Many of you will see this little guy and think to yourselves…

‘Oh a baby alpaca! How cute!’

Around here we know better. After our trip to the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days on the weekend we now know these little creatures as ‘oll-paca’s’. Turns out, according to The Little Bush Princess we’ve been pronouncing their name incorrectly for years. Also turns out she needs one desperately!

I myself was pretty partial to the little hairy donkeys and

the frizzy fowl.

Naaw…and the spotty little lamb!

The Golden Child wants some mighty legs to ride around on…he was also rather taken with the rest of the horse that went along with these powerful legs.

The straw bale house demonstration was inspiring and has us once again chatting about our ‘one day farm’.

There were so many great things to see and do. I’m so glad we went. I’m pretty confident we’ll go back again next year.I’m still feeling better every day. I’m still not all that great at bending in the middle. You have no idea how much you take that for granted until you can’t do it!

I’ve been doing bits and pieces of sewing but nothing that I can show just yet.

Oh and if you like a link my friend Freya Blackwood has just launched her new website. You should pop over and have a squizz. You won’t be disappointed. So much lovely children’s illustration eye candy to be had!

from where I sit

Posted by Jenny on Jul 29 2009 | Things that remind me of....

Here’s what I see.

fat little sparrows

A flock of fat little sparrows silhouetted against the grey sky. Sitting in the bare winter trees.

They remind me of fat little fruit ripening, waiting to fall.

My surgery is over and went pretty well. Not completely to plan but mostly to plan…and that’s alright.

I can finally put these months of being really rather ill behind me and move forward.
Thank you all for your well wishes, messages and calls.

It’s all good.

I’ve already started looking longingly at my sewing machine!

can anyone see the school holidays? where did they go?!

Posted by Jenny on Jul 23 2009 | Children inspire me, Day to dayness

Our school holidays are nearly over and I’m not sure where the time went.

These holidays started out in a  wet weather, ‘…what on earth are we going to do to keep busy in the cold and wet…’ kind of way?

How do you overcome wet, cold, dreary weather?
Go swimming!

Every day!

First one in the pool each day was The Little Bush Princess. In  her first four days of intensive swimming lessons she learnt how to make four freestyle strokes, take a breath and keep on swimming. She was amazing!

You should see her backstroke!

She went from being too scared to dive to standing dives through a hoop!

It just got better from there.

She was so proud of herself and so were we.

Then it’s his turn. Lap after lap after lap and loving every minute!

While he carves up the water she sits and sketches. Waiting for him at the end of his laps to cheer him on as only a LBP can.

A very satisfying way to end our days!

I’m so happy that they were able to keep active when the elements contrived against them.

Mind you. The children are sooo tired after two weeks of this new regime. Last night when TLBP fell asleep on my lap she started dreaming and before I knew it her arms were whirling and she was freestyling in her sleep!

I won’t be in this space for about a week. We have a busy day tomorrow. We’re going to The Mudgee Small Farm Field Days for a bit of a look see.

Then we have a busy weekend of brother’s birthday, friends birthday parties for the children a trip to the movies to round off the holidays….then on Monday I have to have my little bit of surgery….you don’t need a gall bladder right?

You can live without one?

We’ll I’m about to find out. Needless to say I’m rather tense and apprehensive about the whole thing…but what has to be done has to be done.

I’ll just be glad when it’s over.

I’ll see you when it’s all in the past!

Well, you can tell…but don’t tell too many people.

I’ve found a fabulous give away!

If the secret gets out and too many people enter then my chances to win go waaay down…and we don’t want that now do we?

lets hug tea pony

Okay…here’s the secret.

Tea Pony is having a giveaway!

I first found Tea Pony when they collaborated with the talented and inspiring Mandy over at Belle and Boo to make the Lost dress.

I loved it so much that I couldn’t resist buying one for The Little Bush Princess.

She looks soo lovely in it!

Now there’s another little frock and I want it!

My fingers are crossed so tightly that they’re tingling!
