green tomatos

The Little Bush Princess and I were getting the washing in the other day.

While I unpegged the clothes she harvested these little tomatoes. We agreed that there was not enough sun left in our autumn days to ripen them now so she may as well have the joy of plucking them from their stems. An incredibly satisfying thing to do no matter what your age….you know I joined in right?

play dough and plants

But what to do with a bowl of baby tomatoes?

How about combine them with a box of matches (I promise my children don’t usually ‘play with matches’ and that she was very supervised!) and a hearty lump of yellow play dough? Combine them and you have hours of fun in the afternoon sun at the craft table with Nanny.

I guess that there’s still a place in this world for playing with your food.

As for me, I’m feeling better all the time. Thank you to everyone who has left comments or sent emails. I tend to motor around a little slowly at the moment but the upside is I’ve had some time to really stop and smell the roses. You can’t buy that.

I  even had a leisurely little drive in the country today to deliver The Very Hungry Caterpillar quilt to the quilting lady. It’s my first steps into having one of my quilts professionally stitched. I’m more than a bit nervous. I should have it to show in about a fortnight.

I guess the proof will be in the puddin’.

this time a week ago….

felt fishies

This time a week ago I was settled at the kitchen table (work area currently being so messy that it’s been deemed unworkable by leading health and safety experts) making little felt fishies.

Lovely

Floss, felt and filler as far as the eye could see.

Then I got sick….again.

A little over a fortnight ago I spent a couple of nights in hospital after some unplanned surgery. Turns out that unplanned surgery gave me an unplanned infection that reared it’s unplanned head last Wednesday morning.

After nearly five days in hospital away from my little family I was allowed to come home on Sunday.

You never truly appreciate your health, your family or your creature comforts when you have them. However, when they’re taken from you or beyond your control they are all you can think about.

I’m happy to be home. I’m not allowed to ‘do’ much. Mum has been helping me with the housework and the kids. I think Scott deserves a break after the herculean effort he put in to hold everything together, including work while I was in hospital.

On a lighter note frazzy dazzles has been nominated for a blog award over here. Pop over and have a look at the competition! There are some fabulous blogs to have a squizz at……but you’re only going to vote for me right?

Hopefully things will be a bit more organised around here from now on….at least until my next hospital visit!

Now where are those fish?!?

the very hungry caterpillar quilt

the very hungry caterpillar quilt top

Over the past week I have finally gotten my head around what I wanted to do with my stash of Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric.

I had the design for the quilt in my mind…but then I went and made a completely different one. Go figure. I guess that’s the thing when you don’t follow a pattern. Things tend to grown in a kind of organic and if you’re me…haphazard kind of way.

It’s still in a few pieces but hopefully they will come together over the next few days and I will have the top finished. I’ve never had a quilt professionally quilted before. I think this one might be my maiden voyage into that aspect of quilting. Before I dip my toe in that pond is there anything I should know before I approach someone to pretty it up for me? I don’t want to look like a fool!

autumn leaves

Meanwhile outside the wonderful and vibrant Autumn colours are quickly becoming a spent force. They still make a very satisfying crunch underfoot however they’ve lost their ‘eye candy-ness’ (again with the adding of ness to make new words! Gotta stop that!).

It seems that there is so much beauty for such a short amount of time and then the world becomes sad a grey, waiting for the Spring to bring the lush greens and light back into our lives.

Can you tell I’m not eagerly awaiting the coming winter months?

bilby II

Posted by Jenny on May 12 2009 | Original Patterns, Sewing

I can’t believe that it’s been a week since my last post.

Things have been busy. There have been sick children, trips to hospital, my sister’s birthday (happy birthday Margaret!), mother’s day as well as the usual busy-ness that seems to surround us.

bilby

On the sewing side things have been a little on the quiet side…but I can feel a fabric breeze of change starting to blow through my work area. I just hope it’s preceded by a cleaning breeze of change.

This little guy did manage to make an appearance.

He’s number two of my bilby pattern. A request from a friend as a gift for a little baby boy.

The original bilby was a girl…for The Little Bush Princess.

bilby I

At least I managed to rember to give this little guy a tail!

I love his little skivvy the best. For obvious reasons it makes me think of Bert and Ernie!

I don’t know that they look exactly like a real bilby (a native little Australian) but I do think they have a certain bilby-ness about them.

Time to go. That’s the second time I’ve added ‘ness’ to a word to make a new one.

Need tea.

Some of my little ‘things’ are sitting on the shelf, waiting for someone to love them.

I’m so excited! Pop over to Bethany’s Red Yarn for all of the images of the opening of her new Studio/Gallery - Hatch. There are lots incredibly inspiring works from artists from all around the world.

And if you’re in the mood for a little give away why not continue the journey over to Lisa’s Handmade in Israel and leave her a comment to celebrate her bloggy birthday.

Or stop by her Etsy store and have a squizz at what she gets up to.
