it’s oh so quiet

‘The house was asleep. It was silent and still….’

Lynley Dodd

‘Slinky Malinki Catflaps’

I’m at a loss as to what to do with myself. The house is bereft of children.Stolen by school and pre-school and I find myself stalking the rooms like a tigress looking for her cubs.

The fruit cakes on the craft table are going uneaten. Molly Dolly sits waiting for her next cup of tea to be poured.  Zac Power books lie waiting for their finale to be revealed….

Can’t wait until I can have them back.

Its oh so quiet!

What time is it?

vintage cowboy

Let me just clear one thing up. I don’t like to op shop.

I love to op shop!

If my heart is in it I could rummage all day. With that being said it’s something that I think I’ve gotten down to a personal fine art. I know what I would buy and what I wouldn’t buy but I’m always prepared to be tempted by a surprise find.

Enter vintage cowboy dress-up here. Chaps and all!

Chaps….chaps I say! Who could resist chaps?

vintage cowboy dress up

How cool is this dress-up????

I have no idea how old it is or whether it was a mass produced thing. All I know is that it wasn’t going to stay in the op shop window for long once I spotted it.

print of rough rider

I love the printed rough rider atop his bucking bronco.

tassles

I go all gooey over the cotton ric rac and the golden braided tassels. The contrast against the Prussian blue chamois leather is fantastic!

steer

Something tells me that the bailing twine was a running repair! I wonder if it was a child’s invention or the act of a desperate parent who needed to repair the outfit and get it back out into the game quick smart.

bailing twine

All over they’re in wonderful condition even though they look like they’ve been the leading role in many many games. I’ll need to figure out the best way to repair them while conserving their ‘lived in look’ because that’s a huge part of their appeal for me.

They just make me wanna sing…

I’m riding along singing a cowboy song.

Riding along, singing a song.

Oh lee oh lee.

Oh lee oh lay.

Oh lee oh lay.

My boots are made of leather and I wear a cowby hat.

My gun is in it’s holster and I have a la-ri-at.

I climb up on the saddle and I start out on the trail.

Oh Lee oh Lay!

wooden skittles

Hand painted wooden skittles for The Golden Child. All of them are just a little bit different from their brothers.

A fantastic garage sale find….I just wish that they were a tree house!

The search continues….

nothing happening here!

Posted by Jenny on Jan 20 2009 | Day to dayness

Posts are few and far between at the moment…I know!

I’m buzzing around with the kids. Trying to keep them busy in the house when its whaaaay hot outside! They can’t really get out until around 6pm to do anything physical. In short I think we’ve been getting under each others feet a lot!

It doesn’t help that I’m about to turn a year older. I never deal with calender aging very well. It didn’t used to worry me but for some reason a few years ago it really started to. Not that I’m vain and don’t want to ‘grow old’. On the contrary. I intend to not only grow old but live long enough to become a handsome burden to my children! I guess it’s just a time of year that you realise that your life is finite and another year of it is behind you now instead of in front of you.

Nuff whinging.

What’s been happening here?

No sewing that’s for sure! The only thing the sewing machine has been good for lately has been playing the part of a night light for Little Bush Princess night time wanderings!

So here’s something that lives in my ’sewing area’ whether I’m crafting or not.

printers tray

It’s my printers tray. I’ve owned this thing…forever. However I’ve only recently started adding to it myself. It also holds some of my husbands bits and bobs. It’s a nice blend of our interests…only I think I have more things in there than him now!

thimbles

My little…and mostly naked dolls live here. Why do the dolls get through but the clothing rarely makes it? TLBP dressed the little girl above and made her a book to read….too cute!

Brooches from when I was little….my grandmother’s thimbles and my doll shoe collection all have a place.

It’s just a bit of fun really.

‘Somewhere safe’ for things that have nowhere else to go I suppose.

Even though sewing is out of the question with the kids to entertain and a house to decontaminate 24 hours a day while they rampage through it…I did get to an op shop today (I told the kids if they let me go to one op shop I’d take them to the pet shop. Three op shops later we entered the pet shop…but didn’t get home until I’d been to just one more!).

I got some more vintage Sesame Street fabric…yee ha, some school shirts for the boy, some little dress ups for TLBP and this gorgeous cafe curtain.

cafe curtain

Still wet and hanging on the line when I took this photo…but you get the idea.

cafe curtain curtain

I think it will make a fantastic frock for TLBP. Can’t wait to sew it up!
