time to tidy up

Posted by Jenny on Dec 29 2008 | Children inspire me

Well, Christmas is all over. The presents have been unwrapped, the toys have been given at least one test drive each and the over eating has been done! Well, nearly done!

Here is what our morning looked like.

TLBP in the presents

Can you spot The Little Bush Princess amidst all the paper and presents?

TGC

The Golden Child just looked shell shocked for a while there!

Santa was kind and put a smile on their little faces. Especially TGC!

My little pony princess

And who knew a My Little Pony could bring out such awe in a little girl?

So now it’s time to pull down the tree and pack away the decorations. I’m not a big one for keeping things up when the shin dig is over.

I know there’s a superstition about keeping decorations up until New Year. If it does bring bad luck it hasn’t happened around here. I’m willing to take the chance.

I’ll miss some of the little beauties that came our way this year though.

This hansome Santa

and this wonderful raw timber Christmas Tree came from Janie who has continued to be a part of our lives ever since she won our first ever giveaway.

I guess all good things must come to an end. The year is drawing to a close. The next thing will be New Years Resolutions. I’m under the gun to come up with at least one that I know I won’t break.

The problem is that I’m rarely true to my word when it comes to New Years Resolutions.

I’ll have to put a bit more thougth in I think.

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Christmas.

Cheers

Jen

is it christmas yet?

This box arrived yesterday…

cotton monster

I was soooo excited. It’s one of those Christmas presents that you buy for yourself because you just can’t deny it anymore. You want it and damn it…you’re going to have it!

Inside the box is this little guy.

Photograph taken from Cotton Monster Etsy Store.

I had to borrow the picture from Jennifer’s store…because at present this little guy is still in his box under the Christmas Tree.

The thing that pushed me over the line to buy him was the new laws proposed in the US relating to toy making and selling. What if Cotton Monsters were caught up in the new legislation and I missed out? It was strike now or maybe never.

In the meantime it just leaves me asking….’Is it Christmas yeeeet?’

Two more sleeps.

holiday calm

I think that if you come here for the craft content then you will be a tad disappointed over the next week or so. I’ve downed scissors and snips for a little while. Well that’s a bit of an exaggeration. I pick them up from time to time. It’s too hard to ignore them sometimes.

The kids are on school holidays and there is so much to do in just keeping up with them. I’ll keep posting but the fabric content is going to be waaay down. We seem to be doing a lot of this lately.

peep

Goofing off in the sun (when there is some!) with baby Peep….well not so baby Peep. She (gender as yet to be confirmed….fingers crossed she’s a pinkling) grows more and more each day.

The Little Bush Princess is ignoring the fact that she’s a fully functioning ‘nearly hen’ and persists with hand feeding her. Even when there’s so much clover around her she would have to be incredibly unlucky not to get something when she strikes out with a peck.

hand feeding peep

She persists and Peep humours her. I guess it’s a win win situation.

Meanwhile Ruby pulls out the big guns to get her share of the kidlet attention. No chicken can shake hands right? No matter how cute, white and fluffy they might be!

shake Ruby

She knows how to hold her audience in the palm of her paw.

it all begins innocently enough

feeding the chicken

It all started like this. The Little Bush Princess camped at her craft table. She had ‘borrowed’ the pop corn jar from the pantry and was merrily spooning corn kernels from the jar into her toy dog food bowl.

She had to feed her chick (if you’re new around here TLBP is obsessed by ducklings, chickens and birdies in general. If you’re not new….then the obsession continues). Her little re-purposing mind had already filled the other side of the bowl with an appropriately coloured patty pan to be the water. Always thinking this child!

Like I said it all began innocent enough…..but by the time she had finished it was a different story. Within hours there was not a room in the house that didn’t house unpopped popcorn. Everywhere I went I was treading on them.

Trying to be a good mother I let her run with her imagination. She was having such a good time. However all good things must come to an end. Before bed the vacuum came out and the kernels were sucked away. For everyone’s sanity (alright…mostly mine!) it had to be done.

TLBP got the last word though (as always). I think I’ll be turning up corn kernels until Christmas!

Sorry for the lack of crafting content of late. I just haven’t been at the machine. There have been too many other things to do. The bit of sewing I have done has been from other people’s patterns and are for gifts so I can’t really show them here.

Things will pick up after Christmas I’m sure. I have a lot of things planned.

I have scratched out another little colouring sheet. Again I apologise if they’re a tad on the rustic side. Why don’t we say that that’s just part of their charm?!

If you missed out on the others the deer is here and the three wise sheep are here.

I have been tagged with the same tag…twice. So in the spirit of the season I’m going to join in…twice! The first tag came from the lovely Bethany over at Red Yarn and the second from the equally lovely Kathy from Lizzie Jane.

The tag is as follows:

1. Open the 4th picture folder on your computer
2. Open the 4th picture and post it on your blog.
3. Explain the picture.
4. Tag 4 people to do the same!
christmas feet

Last Christmas when my camera was still brand new I sat in the sun and looked for things to take ‘pictures’ of.

Unfortunately at that time I was outside on my own….so I took a photo of my feet in my new Christmas thongs!

I actually like this picture a lot.

I wish my thongs still looked so new.

Now…if I move on four photographs from this one I find:

jump down

The Little Bush Princess…again on Christmas Day. Probably taken from roughly the same vantage point.

She has just jumped off that retaining wall all dressed up as a pink fairy with wings. To understand why she jumped down here you need to look at the two photographs that followed.

roll

giggle

There was just enough slope to the ground for a little girl to have a lovely game of jump, roll and giggle!

Now to pass it on:

Jess at Button Beauty

Jen at Happy Stash

Michelle from Greetingarts

Lisa from Hand Made in Israel

Gemma at Dancin Puffin

Cassie at You Go Girl

Not quite 8 other people…but something is better than nothing I suppose!
