look what I found…

little jointed dolly’s

We went for a little trip to the next town over on the weekend for a bit of a look see. And look what I saw!
These little plastic jointed dolls about 5cm tall…naked as the day they were made and sealed up in a little bag for $4! I am now kicking myself that I only bought one bag!

I bought them because they reminded me so much of this little lady…vintage tiny doll dressed in lace

I know that they don’t look anything alike…but they have an essence that is the same. This little lady isn’t jointed and she isn’t as ‘grown up’ as the other girls. She would be their little sister if she wasn’t 30 odd years older than them…she was mine when I was a little girl. My mum dressed her up in this lace. It has faded over the years…but I think I have faded along with her! So we will forgive that!

nappy of vintage doll
Knowing the kind of child I was I have no idea how this nappy managed to stay on her little body! Mum’s stitching must have done the trick!

I have to say I am a mean old mummy. The Little Bush Princess is on a strictly look but don’t touch rule with my little baby doll. I know she is itching to get her fingers on that nappy to see what is underneath. I just don’t think I am ready to chance it just yet. One day she will be hers though. I promise!

How lovely it is to find a new dolly that reminds me so much of an old dolly. I don’t think there will ever by a time when a doll won’t appeal to my inner child!

For now I will bribe TLBP by doing up the quads in some lace and loveliness and let them move into the dolls house. TLBP will have to be satisfied with them! I know I would be!

zia gifts

The other thing I have to blog about today arrived in the post late last week. The beautiful Phillipa from Zia Koko has very kindly sent me a bundle of fabric, ribbon and ric rac from her giveaway she had a few weeks ago. I was so excited. I love mail!

Imagine how excited I was when I realised that it wasn’t just a fabric bundle she had sent me but also one of her beautiful large tote bags! Complete with pretty embroidery and blue and white handles! I was so touched by her random act of kindness towards her readers…and in particular to me! I loved them Phillipa thank you so very much.

When I first started blogging she was one of the first people to stop by and offer me encouragement and advise. Stop by and say hello. She hasn’t posted for a little while. We might need to knock on the door and ask for more!

what to do about milly…

Posted by Jenny on Jun 27 2008 | Children inspire me

This week saw our son get up in front of a packed audience at our local theatre and take part in his schools annual production called ‘What to do about Milly’

To say that he was nervous at times would have been an understatement. But he did it. He put his all into making his performance with his classmate the best that it could be and we could not be prouder.

A lot was asked of these little children who were no older than eight. And they rose to the occasion like I could never have thought possible. As an adult I could not find the courage to go on stage and perform as they all did.

All their teachers and parents alike should be proud and inspired by the courage, talent and maturity shown by these little people.

tap doggin

The Golden Child even made it into the local paper with his fellow Tap Dogs (or Tap Pups as I thought they should be called!). The Golden Child is the pup on the far left.

We are all having a well deserved day off today!

the next installment of bed monsters…

Posted by Jenny on Jun 25 2008 | Original Patterns, Sewing

mooshie

Well this is the sister of the original bed monster. This one has been named ‘Moo-shee’ by The Little Bush Princess. Moo-shee is a collaborative work between TLBP and I.

It was collaborative because apparently I needed to make the eyes bigger. I needed to make the pupils bigger. Both eyes needed to have colour around them and of course…there needed to be three teeth!

I have to say I like the original bed monsters aesthetics much more…but I really had a lovely time seeing the look of delight on her little face when she saw that all her design ideas had been taken on board and used to create a little open mouthed monster of her own.

monsters will be monsters

No matter what the design….monsters will be monsters!

And for those who followed the production costume debacle! There was a full dress rehearsal yesterday which saw me having to unpick yet more of the infamous skirt and making it shorter still. It hit the stage in its debut today and from what I gather it was a hit. I will be in the audience instead of under the stage tomorrow and I will see for myself. Cross your fingers. I will shrink into my seat if something happens to it!

Have a great Wednesday!

introducing bed monsters

bed monster

This is one of the little fellas I have been working on over the weekend. This one was snapped up by The Golden Child in an instant. The Little Bush Princess declined the monster on the grounds that it was the wrong colour…ie not pink and that it didn’t have enough teeth. Apparantly three is the ‘right number’ of teeth…just in case you were wondering.

open mouthed monster

She later regretted that decision when she found out that the mouth ‘works’…

Needless to say there is a pink monster to go with the blue one now!

Maybe a picture of that tomorrow!
