guess who’s coming to live with us?

Posted by Jenny on Mar 23 2010 | Day to dayness, Things that remind me of....

Tallulah!

Isn’t she just beautiful?

She’s on her way to Australia from Canada and all her little friends at Bamboletta.

Made by the incredibly talented and dedicated Christina she will be a doll that The Little Bush Princess will hold for the rest of her life. She will be so cherished! Christina’s Nonna knitted her little cardigan. How wonderful is that?

If you’re interested in one of these little people then you need to be dedicated to your craft. They’re so hard to get. For good reason. They’re amazing!

Will post some more pictures when she’s home with us.

i know things have to change…but does it have to be now?

Posted by Jenny on Dec 20 2009 | Children inspire me, Things that remind me of....

Here are some of the titles I thought of for this post.

‘It’s not you, it’s me.’

‘Discombobulated’

‘Where to from here?’

‘Changes changes everywhere’

All of them seemed appropriate. Everything seems to be shifting weight around here. Rolling from the then and moving to the new.

My only problem is that I was really rather happy with the old…and as with most things in my life. I’m rather intimidated by the new.

I’ve been a bit absent from here of late because I’ve been so busy everywhere else.

The Little Bush Princess had a final class concert for her little pre-school class. It was so lovely and so heart wrenching at the same time.

Counting down the days until there would be no more turns on the flying fox.

The last ballet class for the year.

The last day in year three for The Golden Child and Presentation Day that made me cry.

Then the Pre School’s Christmas Party.

On 15th August 2000 I stopped working fulltime a few weeks before our little boy was born. I haven’t returned to the workforce in any real way since then. A bit here and a bit there but nothing much. Now in six weeks time my last little lamb heads off to school. I feel a sense of almost mourning settling over me. There’s a lump in my throat that I can’t hide in my voice any more. It sounds silly, shallow and a bit wrong but I feel like my ‘reason for being’ is running out…shallow I know.

I know change must happen.

I just wish I could stall it for a little while longer.

Just a little while.

 I’m not ready yet.

little cotton love

Posted by Jenny on Nov 17 2009 | Day to dayness, Things that remind me of....

This is my morning cup of tea. Do you like the cup?

I do….I love it!

It’s the best kind of cup. Not only because it’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar….but because it was a gift of kindness from a friend that I’m yet to meet face to face. It comes from Julie from Little Cotton Rabbits.

The cup came in a package of happiness that also held this little lass.

Isn’t she delightful? She’s a sister for Winsome.

We’re all so very happy that she’s come to join our little cotton family.

How beautiful is that tail poking out from behind her frock?!

Two snuggly little hedgehoggers also made the long journey. I could only photograph one though….The Little Bush Princess was having a little sleep when I took these photographs….clutching her little hog!

There was so much loveliness in this package, kind words in a LCR card, chocolates that didn’t make it to be photographed either! Things that brightened my day and that have gone on to make me smile every time I’ve looked at them since.

I know that a lot of people who will come here are already Little Cotton Rabbit fans. All I can say is that I’m so very fortunate and happy to be a Little Cotton friend as well.

Thank you Julie!

from where I sit

Posted by Jenny on Jul 29 2009 | Things that remind me of....

Here’s what I see.

fat little sparrows

A flock of fat little sparrows silhouetted against the grey sky. Sitting in the bare winter trees.

They remind me of fat little fruit ripening, waiting to fall.

My surgery is over and went pretty well. Not completely to plan but mostly to plan…and that’s alright.

I can finally put these months of being really rather ill behind me and move forward.
Thank you all for your well wishes, messages and calls.

It’s all good.

I’ve already started looking longingly at my sewing machine!

vintage cowboy

Posted by Jenny on Jan 25 2009 | Children inspire me, Day to dayness, Things that remind me of....

Let me just clear one thing up. I don’t like to op shop.

I love to op shop!

If my heart is in it I could rummage all day. With that being said it’s something that I think I’ve gotten down to a personal fine art. I know what I would buy and what I wouldn’t buy but I’m always prepared to be tempted by a surprise find.

Enter vintage cowboy dress-up here. Chaps and all!

Chaps….chaps I say! Who could resist chaps?

vintage cowboy dress up

How cool is this dress-up????

I have no idea how old it is or whether it was a mass produced thing. All I know is that it wasn’t going to stay in the op shop window for long once I spotted it.

print of rough rider

I love the printed rough rider atop his bucking bronco.

tassles

I go all gooey over the cotton ric rac and the golden braided tassels. The contrast against the Prussian blue chamois leather is fantastic!

steer

Something tells me that the bailing twine was a running repair! I wonder if it was a child’s invention or the act of a desperate parent who needed to repair the outfit and get it back out into the game quick smart.

bailing twine

All over they’re in wonderful condition even though they look like they’ve been the leading role in many many games. I’ll need to figure out the best way to repair them while conserving their ‘lived in look’ because that’s a huge part of their appeal for me.

They just make me wanna sing…

I’m riding along singing a cowboy song.

Riding along, singing a song.

Oh lee oh lee.

Oh lee oh lay.

Oh lee oh lay.

My boots are made of leather and I wear a cowby hat.

My gun is in it’s holster and I have a la-ri-at.

I climb up on the saddle and I start out on the trail.

Oh Lee oh Lay!
