ten

Posted by Jenny on Sep 03 2010 | Children inspire me

If you’re a young man celebrating your tenth birthday then here’s how you do it!

Take to the bush with three of your friends.

NO GIRLS ALLOWED!

Except for Freya. I mean how could you leave this little girl out of the fun?

Build a fire and light it.

Gather around and poke it.

Enjoy the fun of getting that ‘bushman’ smell that only a campfire can assist with.

…while she does a spot of dry land fishing.

Poke the fire a little more. Dad’s turn this time.

Add highly coveted spud guns and appropriate ammo.

 Too much fun!

These people took care of the birthday cake for me.

Sooooo much easier than trying to tote an elaborate cake out to the bush, keep it whole and have to cut it up….aaah too much mess.

Donuts were soo much easier and a big winner with the kids.

Then after a long long bush walk inspecting goats (who were REALLY hard to keep away from the chips and goodies!), jumping the creek, helping round up the alpaca’s and checking the yabbie net it was back to the fire.

With flames licking the wood and some easy access hot coals exposed all was ready for roasting marshmallows.

That’s how it’s done.

The perfect tenth birthday for the most wonderful boy.

Happy Birthday Harry.

We hope that you had fun….we know you did!

We love you so.

six

Posted by Jenny on Aug 17 2010 | Children inspire me

When she turned five it seemed monumental. Huge. Couldn’t believe it. On the cusp of change and no way of stopping what was coming. She would start school before she had another birthday and it all seemed very confronting.

Now here we are. Six.

How did that happen?

Wasn’t she only born yesterday?

Testing her lungs while her father fought desperately to keep the bright lights out of her brand new little eyes.

Where does the time go?

Next stop ten for Harry.

Watch this space for his birthday shots. A party at the property. Yabbies, campfires and chasing goats. Great boy fun!

i…we…our…

‘Mum…if I take photos of my things can we put them on our blog?’

I guess this blog has become more a part of their little worlds than I’d realised.

I like it that it’s ‘our blog’. So much of what lives here belongs to them.

if you build it they will come

If you light a campfire everyone will poke it!

An enterprising Bush Princess doesn’t let a lack of cutlery come between her and her sausage.

No cutlery? Well there’s always two sticks.

Scott described this day as seeing our children at their best.

Now if only my makeshift bbq skills could improve!

easter! i forgot easter!

Posted by Jenny on May 07 2010 | Children inspire me, Sewing

Easter did happen around here, at the usual time and when everyone else celebrated it. I only just realised that I never put up a ‘Happy Easter!’ post.

I’m getting pretty forgetful of late.

About three days before Easter The Little Bush Princess sat with a pondering look on her face. When I asked her what she was contemplating she sparked up with,

“I’m just wondering what kind of Easter toys we’ll get this year.’

Easter toys…..Easter toys…..I had no plans for Easter toys.

Of course I should because every year they get an Easter toy each. This year just seemed to sneak up on me and I had nothing planned.

Luckily The Golden Child had been asking for a Bilby for a little while now so his Easter treat was in the bag. As for TLBP….well there was this pattern that I’d be itching to try but had found other jobs to do that seemed ‘more important’.

Now I look back what could have been more important?!
She’s made from the very talented Fiona Dalton from Hop Skip Jump’s ‘Jack Rabbit’ pattern.

I’ve never really embroidered a face before. Well I have. I just haven’t really tried to embroider neat little circles for a while.

I was a bit nervouse about taking on the task. It’s a simple enough face but I think that the neat clean lines of Fiona’s designs need a practiced hand. Luckily for me Melly came to the rescue and a few days before the embroidery started she posted this. Thanks Melly!

I don’t think I got the effect I truly wanted. It was hard. I had to sew ‘on the quiet’ at night when the children were in bed and the light was not the best when I tackled the eyes. Neither was the hour.

I know that my bunny isn’t exactly like one of Fiona’s elegant creatures…but I’m pretty happy with her and more to the point TLBP is too.

That’s all that matters!
