the last of our babies

Posted by Jenny on Jul 25 2010 | The Farm

Indulge me. I can’t help it.

These are our newest little goatie babies. As I write this they’re yet to be named.

Twins. Boy and girl.

So beautiful!

sunday at the farm

Posted by Jenny on Jun 14 2010 | Day to dayness, The Farm

I know I haven’t been around here much lately. Things have been busy and hectic to say the least. Scott’s been away a lot for work leaving me busy with the kids. Then last week The Little Bush Princess had to spend three days in hospital with the effects of a virus. Scott was away for work and I had to rely on a truly wonderful, kind and generous friend to care for The Golden Child and be there for TLBP and I.

It was stressful, upsetting and hard for everyone…but it’s over now!

Another time consuming activity has also been completed. I’ve finished my contribution to the school concert…stitching up eighteen little dresses and pairs of pants. The last week has been smoother and apart from having to have four wisdom teeth out tomorrow….urgh….hopefully things will be back on a more even keel now.

Out on the farm things have been bubbling along whether we’re there or not. Our goat herd has increased again. Taking our numbers from the original eight adults to eight adults and four babies.  We spent our day out there yesterday with friends. It was lovely.

My baby with our new twins, Titus and Lucky.

All of our goat babies together. May is quite a bit bigger than the others. She’s grown so quickly! She’s half the size of her mother already.

This little lady is our newest addition. Her name is June. She’s the softest creature in the world!

She’s blessed with the most attentive mother in our herd. Soft and gentle, kind and concerned.

Hopefully things will be back to being a bit more normal once my teeth are taken care of and I’ll get back to posting more regularly.

isn’t she lovely?

Posted by Jenny on May 21 2010 | The Farm

Her name is May and she’s such a pretty little thing.

A trip out to the property on Thursday brought with it a suprise that I for one was not expecting. I might not have been expecting it but it turns out that at least one of our goaties was expecting!

This lovely mother had her first baby waiting for us when we rolled up.

She’s a good mother although she does seem a little overwhelmed and confused at times. Don’t we all?

I say that we didn’t know we had the patter of baby hooves in our future….although we did have our suspicions.

This lady should have her baby….(or babies by the swagger and sway back she has) in the next couple of days. We suspect that one of our other goat girls might be in the motherly way as well.

Life seems to be getting a bit more interesting out on the farm.

I can’t begin to tell you how excited the children are.

On a non-farm note. Thank you to everyone who congratulated me on my painting sale. It was exciting and bewildering at the same time. It was followed by my first attempt at teaching the gentle and noble art of stitching to a class of eager and willing learners. I need to back that lesson up with another next Monday.

I’m so out of my depth.

Fingers crossed for me that the second class is better than the first. I think that my students are teaching me far more than I’m teaching them. I will continue to bribe them with baked treats to try and buy their confidence. Shallow I know but a viable teaching aid in the hand of an experienced mother. Just ask my children.

Poor students!!!

Have a great weekend. If you’re looking for us….we’ll be out with the goats!

if you build it they will come

Posted by Jenny on May 10 2010 | Children inspire me, Day to dayness, The Farm

If you light a campfire everyone will poke it!

An enterprising Bush Princess doesn’t let a lack of cutlery come between her and her sausage.

No cutlery? Well there’s always two sticks.

Scott described this day as seeing our children at their best.

Now if only my makeshift bbq skills could improve!

high on a hill….

Can anyone out there yodel?

The lead up to these little critters arriving on the farm has seen a lot of yodelling going on around here. None of it good!

Our farm now has it’s first official ’stock’ under our ownership. That is to say the first living things that WE’VE intentionally placed there. That’s not to say that there aren’t lots of things running around out there. It seems like every time we go out there we find evidence of some new critter or other that calls the place home.

Maybe the goaties can keep all the freeloaders in line! I actually have no doubt that they can. The ‘big male’, ‘JT’ has a wicked case of little man syndrome and the head armour to mean business. When the going gets tough (or if anyone is near him in any way shape or form!) JT mans up, puts his pointy nointy horns down and butts people! Its rude…but I think he’s too set in his ways to change now. He’ll be our challenge.

(Sorry about the quality of the photograph…it was a phone photo. Fear not. I’m sure that there will be a host of goatie pictures happening around here in the future!)
